Evons is a new trading card game, and it's live now in Early Access. If you've been searching for a new TCG, a new CCG, or simply a new card game worth learning in 2026, this is your starting point. Evons is a grid-based strategy card game where every card communicates through arrows and icons instead of written text — which means anyone, in any language, can pick it up and play.
This article explains what Evons is, why we launched in Early Access, and how our two-layer model — a free CCG that everyone can play, plus a later collectible TCG layer — is designed so that collecting never pays to win.
What is Evons?
Evons is a new trading card game played on a 7×7 grid. You build a 60-card deck, spend a resource called credits to play monster cards, and use directional arrows to flip your opponent's cards toward your side. The player who controls the most flipped cards on the main board when it fills up wins the game.
There is no text on the cards. Abilities, costs, attack and defense, and the eight possible arrow directions are all shown through clear visual icons. That single design choice makes Evons a language-barrier-free card game — a new TCG that a player in Tokyo, São Paulo, or Berlin can learn from the exact same card.
The core loop is fast to learn and deep to master:
- Deck: 60 cards. Two card types — monsters and blocks. Max 4 copies of any single monster card.
- Board: a 7×7 grid, with a 5×5 main zone and a surrounding out zone.
- Credits: start with 50 on turn one, then gain +5 at the start of each turn. You can't play a monster that would push you below zero.
- Goal: flip more cards to your side than your opponent. Max score is 25; ties are possible.
Each of the six elements — fire, nature, earth, water, electro, and darkness — carries its own special ability, from firestorm damage to resurrection from the graveyard. Combine arrows, abilities, conflicts, and chain reactivations, and a single move can cascade across the whole board.
Why we launched in Early Access
We could have waited until everything was polished, sealed, and printed. We chose not to. Evons is in Early Access because we're building this game together with its community.
Early Access means the full first set — Set 00: Initialization, 180 cards across 6 elements and 9 arrow abilities — is playable today. It also means the rules are living. Some systems, like element color synergy, are still being finalized based on real games and real feedback. Launching now lets players shape the meta, surface interactions we didn't predict, and help decide where Evons goes next.
If you want to get in early on a new card game and actually influence how it grows, this is the moment. We're not just shipping a product — we're starting a community.
CCG first: everyone can play
Here's the part that matters most. Evons launches as a CCG — a card game everyone can play. The complete card pool is available digitally so that the cost of entry is never a barrier to competing. You don't need to chase rare pulls or spend money to field a tournament-viable deck. Every element combination in Set 00 is viable by design, with no predetermined dominant archetype.
The CCG layer is about access and fairness: the same cards, the same rules, the same competitive footing for everyone. This is what makes Evons a genuinely new kind of CCG — collectible in spirit, but built so that skill and deckbuilding decide games, not your wallet.
TCG later: collecting, never pay-to-win
So where does the "trading card game" part come in? Later, Evons will add a collectible TCG layer — physical and premium cards, special finishes, and the joy of owning and trading something tangible.
But we've made a firm promise: the TCG layer affects aesthetics and collectibility only. It never affects gameplay. A rare, foil, or alternate-art card is exactly as strong as its common version. Collecting in Evons is about expression and value, not power. You collect because the cards are beautiful and meaningful — never because you have to in order to win.
This two-layer model is the heart of what makes Evons a different kind of new trading card game:
- CCG layer → free, fair, competitive. Everyone plays on equal footing.
- TCG layer → premium, collectible, aesthetic. Trade and collect without ever buying an advantage.
